Katarzyna Scholastyka Branicka, née Sapieha

Katarzyna Scholastyka Branicka, née Sapieha was deeply involved with managing and administrating the Branicki estate. She exchanged correspondence with people employed at the court, supervising both property matters and the daily provisions for the household. Katarzyna Scholastyka was also an active patroness for many religious centres. For instance, she spent her private funds on the church in Białystok and the Dominican monastery in Choroszcz. In the church in Białystok, she also founded a tombstone for her husband, where his heart was buried. She died in 1720.

The Court:

The spouses maintained several magnificent residences. However, Białystok remained the main seat of the family. In the 1690s Branicki commissioned the reconstruction of the Białystok residence to Tylman of Gameren. During this period, intensive construction works were also carried out at the couple’s estate in Tykocin. At the beginning of the 18th century, they also purchased Choroszcz from Jerzy Wandalin Mniszech.
